Decluttering Your Space to Invite Wealth and Abundance

April is one of my favourite months in Feng Shui. Nature is waking up, trees are beginning to blossom, and there’s a noticeable sense of fresh energy and new possibilities in the air.
In Feng Shui, spring is connected to the Wood element, which represents growth, expansion and new opportunities.
Just as plants push through the soil and trees begin to bloom, this is the perfect time for us to clear out the old and create space for new energy to enter our lives.
And one of the most powerful ways to do that? Decluttering.
Clutter is more than just physical mess. In Feng Shui, clutter represents stagnant energy. When energy becomes stuck in our homes, it can also reflect areas of life where we feel stuck – including our finances.
The good news is that even small changes can begin to shift the energy in your space and open the door to greater abundance.
Here are some simple Feng Shui tips to help you declutter and activate wealth energy this April.
Start by Clearing the Clutter
Many homes are filled with items we no longer use, need or even notice. These objects can quietly hold onto old energy and emotions, preventing fresh opportunities from entering our lives.
Decluttering doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Start small.
Choose one drawer, cupboard or surface and ask yourself:
Do I love this?
Do I use this?
Does this support the life I want to create?
If the answer is no, it may be time to let it go.
Each item you release creates space for new energy, ideas and opportunities to arrive.
Clean Your Oven to Activate Financial Energy
This is one of the Feng Shui tips that surprises people the most.
In Feng Shui, your oven represents your finances because it symbolises how wealth is created and nourished within your home.
If the oven is dirty, neglected or only one burner is used regularly, it can symbolise stagnant financial energy.
To activate wealth energy:
Give your oven a good clean
Use all the hobs in rotation
Cook with intention and gratitude
Many clients have experienced interesting shifts after doing this, from unexpected financial opportunities to solutions appearing to long-standing money worries.
The key is to clean your oven with positive intention, inviting abundance and opportunity into your life.
Fix Broken Items Around Your Home
Broken objects represent broken or fragmented energy in Feng Shui.
Loose door handles, cracked mirrors or wobbly furniture may seem like small things, but energetically they can affect the flow of opportunity and prosperity.
For example:
A loose door handle can symbolise difficulty “grasping” opportunities
A broken mirror may reflect a distorted view of your finances
By repairing these items, you restore balance and create a home that feels stable and supportive.
Bring in Living Plants
Plants are powerful symbols of growth, vitality and prosperity.
April is when nature is bursting with life, making it the perfect time to bring that vibrant energy into your home.
Healthy plants help circulate fresh chi (life force energy), which can support new opportunities and financial growth.
However, it’s important to remove any plants that are dead or struggling, as these can represent stagnant or declining energy.
Thriving plants create thriving energy.
Improve the Lighting in Your Home
Lighting is another often overlooked Feng Shui tool for wealth and success.
Bright, well-lit spaces represent clarity, visibility and opportunity. When areas of your home are dark or have burnt-out light bulbs, they can symbolise places where opportunities may be hidden or overlooked.
Take a few minutes to:
Replace burnt-out bulbs
Open curtains and blinds
Add lamps to darker areas
A bright space encourages energy to move freely and can make your home feel more uplifting and supportive.
Be Mindful of Kitchen Energy
In Feng Shui, the kitchen is strongly connected to wealth.
Try to avoid displaying knives openly, as they create sharp, aggressive energy that can disrupt harmony and financial stability.
Instead, store knives safely in drawers or blocks and keep kitchen surfaces calm and uncluttered.
A peaceful kitchen supports nourishing, positive energy.
Prevent Wealth Energy Draining Away
Bathrooms can symbolically represent energy and money flowing out of the home due to the presence of drains.
There are a few simple ways to balance this:
Keep the toilet lid down
Keep the bathroom door closed when possible
Ensure plumbing is working properly
Add earth tones or natural stone objects to ground the energy
Some Feng Shui practitioners also tie a small red ribbon around the tap as a symbolic way to activate financial energy and prevent “leaks”.
