September often feels like a second New Year. After the slower pace of summer, it's the perfect time to refocus on your goals, embrace new opportunities and reset your environment to support your career.

In Feng Shui, your home reflects your life. By making a few intentional changes, you can create a space that encourages clarity, confidence and career growth.

1. Repair What's Broken

One of the most powerful Feng Shui principles is to repair anything that's broken in your home. Tighten loose door handles, fix broken mirrors, replace damaged furniture and change blown light bulbs.

Broken items represent fragmented or stagnant energy, which can affect different areas of your life, including your career. A loose door handle, for example, can symbolise struggling to "grasp" opportunities, while a broken mirror may reflect a distorted view of your potential or confidence. Even something as simple as a blown light bulb can represent feeling burnt out, lacking motivation or struggling to see the next step in your career.

When you repair these everyday items, you're sending a message that you're ready to move forward. A well-maintained home creates a stable, supportive environment where positive energy can flow freely, helping you feel more focused, energised and open to new opportunities.

2. Work in the Command Position

Whether you work from home full-time or simply have a desk where you pay bills or plan your week, your position matters.

Ideally, you should be able to see the door without sitting directly in line with it, with a solid wall behind you for support. This is known as the Command Position and symbolises being in control of your career rather than constantly reacting to events. It can also help improve focus, confidence and decision-making.

Before I discovered Feng Shui, my desk was in what I now know was one of the worst possible positions. I sat facing a wall with my back to both the window and the door. Looking back, it perfectly reflected how I felt in my career. It often seemed like I was constantly hitting my head against a brick wall, no matter how hard I worked, and opportunities or challenges always felt as though they came out of nowhere. I literally couldn't see what was coming towards me.

Once I learnt about the Command Position and reorganised my workspace in line with Feng Shui principles, I noticed a real shift. I felt calmer, more in control and able to make clearer decisions. It also gave me the confidence to take the next step in my career and launch my own business, alongside building my consultancy work. While moving my desk wasn't the only reason for those changes, it became part of creating an environment that supported my goals instead of working against them.

3. Ensure Your Front Door Welcomes Opportunities

Your front door is known as the "mouth of qi" where energy enters your home. Make sure it's inviting by keeping it clean, ensuring it opens fully without obstruction and replacing worn doormats or broken hardware. A welcoming entrance symbolically invites new clients, promotions and opportunities into your life.

Remember, Feng Shui works best when paired with aligned action. Creating a supportive environment can help you feel more focused and motivated, but combining these changes with networking, learning new skills and actively pursuing opportunities is what truly helps career success.

4. Declutter Your Workspace

Clutter can create mental overwhelm and stagnant energy, making it harder to think clearly or move projects forward.

Take time to clear old paperwork, organise your desk and remove anything that no longer serves you. A tidy workspace creates room for fresh ideas, greater productivity and new opportunities to enter your career.

5. Display Symbols of Your Success

Your environment should remind you where you're going, not where you've been.

Display qualifications, awards, testimonials, vision boards or photographs that represent your professional achievements and future ambitions. These visual reminders help reinforce your goals every time you see them and keep your focus on the career you want to create.

Discover and Activate Your Career Area

Many people are surprised to learn that there isn't just one universal career corner in every home.

In some schools of Feng Shui, such as the Western (BTB) approach, the career area is always located in the same place. However, in Classical Feng Shui, every home is unique. The exact location of your career sector is calculated using your home's orientation, the year it was built and other important Feng Shui calculations. This creates a personalised energy map that's completely bespoke to your property.

Once your true career area has been identified, you can activate it with the right colours, materials, elements and enhancements that support your professional goals.

This is one of the reasons a professional Feng Shui consultation can be so valuable. Rather than relying on general advice, you'll discover exactly where the career energy lies within your own home and receive tailored recommendations to help you unlock its full potential.

Ready to Create a Home That Supports Your Success?

Your home has a profound influence on how you think, feel and show up in the world. Small changes can make a noticeable difference, but understanding the unique energy of your property can provide even deeper insight.

A personalised Classical Feng Shui consultation maps the energy of your home and identifies the areas linked to your career, wealth, relationships and wellbeing, giving you practical, bespoke recommendations designed specifically for you.

September is the perfect time to reset your space and step confidently into the opportunities ahead.
